Peeling the Onion -
Annamaya Kosha (Gross Sheath) to Anandamaya Kosha (Bliss
Sheath) . We will attempt to look into some very important
questions. Working with the gross body requires thought. Thought
is also used to begin the penetration into deeper layers, viz.,
from Sthula Sarira (Gross Body) to Sukshma Sarira
(Subtle Body) towards Karana Sarira (Causal Body) and
into the Atma (Self) . Can thought ever make such a
penetration? What does it mean to still the mind? What is the
nature of true freedom? How is the pattern of ego-centric
activity broken? What is the content of Consciousness? How is
the asana practice related to all this?

Ramanand Patel
is regarded as a leading yoga instructor for
students and teachers around the world. When he was twelve his father
initiated him into yoga practice and philosophy. After meeting a few other
teachers, he started more serious study under Guruji (Yogacharya
Sri B.K.S. Iyengar) in 1968. Since 1984 he has studied Vedanta
philosophy under H.H. Swami Dayananda
Saraswati. He has also learned from sharing his knowledge with a vast
number of students and teachers since 1964.
He has a special interest in the effects of Sound
on yoga practice and offers a number of workshops in this subject with his
friend and a world class musician in the North Indian classical style,
Pandit Mukesh Desai.
Ramanand is respected as an innovator in the use of props and working with
students who have special needs.
How
to get the most from this workshop:
- If you have your own props such as blocks,
belts and bolsters, please bring them with you.
- When you arrive at the studio, take off your
shoes and put them in the cubbies in the dressing rooms. Do not leave money,
your wallet or other valuables in the
dressing room. It's best to lock your purse in the trunk of your car. Yoga
East is not responsible for lost or stolen property.
- Please be on time to the workshop and get
there early enough to set up your mat and your props and be ready to begin
at the start time each day.
- Ramanand prefers that you NOT bring water
with you into the practice room. Leave
your water bottle in the dressing room and drink water at the breaks.
- Do not take photos during the workshop or
make recordings. You may take notes if it doesn't interfere with paying
attention to Ramanand and listening to his instructions.
- You are welcome to ask questions during the
workshop, but keep them brief and to the point. Be prepared to demonstrate
the pose about which you are asking.
- Do not talk while Ramanand is talking or
giving instructions.
- Yoga East's policy is to observe silence in
the practice room during breaks so that participants can rest or meditate.
Please go outside to have conversations during breaks.
If you have a medical condition or
injury that you want to bring to Ramanand's attention, write him a succinct note
about it and give it to him at the start of the workshop. Ramanand does not
teach therapeutic yoga. Please read his article about this topic on his website.
