Contemplation Asana Practice Preparation for Yoga Nidra

What is a Retreat?

The word "ashram" means "without fatigue". Spending time in a yoga ashram is a way of removing the fatigue of worldly existence. Retreats are a wonderful way to refresh and renew your spirit and spiritual aspirations. Our Retreats create the serene and refreshing atmosphere of a yoga ashram - a sanctuary in which we can focus on the refreshing and spiritually-reviving practices of yoga. The teachers of our tradition and the texts of yoga tells us that the purpose of human birth is to enjoy life, family and work, and to have spiritual fulfillment. We explore these teachings in our retreats

What to Bring

Bring a meditation cushion if you have one, notebook and pen, and a bed pillow and eyebag for Yoga Nidra. Wear comfortable clothes for asana practice.  If you have special dietary requirements, please let us know in advance so your needs can be accomodated. Our retreats combine asana practice as well as seated meditation and lying-down relaxation. You may want to bring a shawl or sweater and a pair of socks.

How to Register

All students must register and pay in advance. Please do not drop-in or ask to be "put on the list". Payments are not accepted at the retreat. A 20% service charge will be deducted from the refund for all cancellations. No refund will be given for cancellations made within 5 days of the retreat. Spring Retreat
Turning Points - New Beginnings
Laura Spaulding (other teachers to be announced)

Saturday, May 29, Kentucky Street Studio
$75 (limited to 24 students)

An ashram is a spiritual retreat center where seekers can spend time absorbed in the traditional practices of yoga. The word “ashram” means “to remove fatigue”, in the sense of removing that sense of world-weariness, that fatigue that can result from living in our stress-filled, hustle and bustle world.

Our retreats give the opportunity to immerse yourself in the timeless practices of yoga. When we do this we open ourselves to the Turning Points - the golden opportunities to enrich our life and restore a sense of wonder and awe.

In this body, the Mount Meru (the vertebral column) is surrounded by seven islands;
T
here are rivers, seas, mountains, fields; and lords of fields also.
There are in it seers and sages; all the stars and planets as well.
There are sacred pilgrimages, shrines; and presiding deities of the shrines.
The sun and moon, agents of creation and destruction also move in it;
Ether, air, fire, water and earth are also there.
All the beings that exist in the three worlds
1 are also to be found in the body;
Surrounding the Meru they are engaged in their respective functions.
But ordinary men do not know it;
He who knows all this is a Yogi; there is no doubt about it.

Siva Samhita, Chap.11: v.1-5

The Definitive Journey

Sunday, October 31, 2010, Holiday Manor
$75 Yoga East members ($95 non-members)

The purpose of the Fall Retreat every year is to enter into a dialogue with the ultimate teacher - Death. From the teachings of the Katha Upanishad we hear the story of the young seeker Nachiketa, who journeys to the kingdom of death to learn what only Yama, Lord of Death, can teach.  The Retreat ends with a powerful Yoga Nidra that takes us to the kingdom of death... and beyond!  An experience not to be missed!

C
ourage and Faith - Making and Keeping Resolutions

Anne Kosko, Kim Eisner, Kim Esteran, Laura Spaulding
Saturday January 1, 2011, Holiday Manor

Our focus of the Winter Retreat every year is to learn how to make an inspiring Sankalpa - an Intention or Resolution - for the New Year.
To make a Sankalpa is to tap into the highest purpose of life. Our Retreat will use the teachings and practices of yoga to help you discover within yourself the power to create meaningful and inspiring resolutions and learn how to keep them. Learn how yoga and meditation will help you dissolve negative habits, thoughts and behaviors to live fully and joyfully with enthusiasm and creativity.  We will be hearing The Ramayana - a story from the yoga tradition about love, faith, service and courage. By hearing this story we learn how to overcome obstacles, surmount tragedy and accomplish the highest goals of life. We will also use asana, pranayama, meditation and contemplation to support our intention.
